Farewell to Liz Buchman

Our much-loved Director of Community Relations and Events, Liz Buchman, has headed west, moving to St. Louis, Missouri, with her family. We will miss Liz’s warmth, creativity and talent.

In the 16 months Liz was at Family House, she had a positive impact in our community. She led our annual spring BBQ/Golf and fall Carolina Ball fundraisers, events that raised nearly $300,000, and she organized outreach events throughout the year, including Founders & Friends, Farm to Table, Remembrance Service, Donor Appreciation, and Gingerbread House holiday events. Her boundless energy and effervescent personality affected everyone she met, and she shared verve, intelligence, ease, and enthusiasm in her daily work. Liz is an accomplished artist and has given us art to enjoy at the House. Visit our first floor ladies room to see her beautiful mural there!

We wish Liz and her family Godspeed as they head west, where her husband, Craig, will be the Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology at the Washington University School of Medicine. And while it’s hard to imagine life at Family House without Liz, we know she’ll be back to visit us since she did leave one of her two sons behind - her older son, Brett, is a rising sophomore at Carolina.
