Dear Family House Friends and Supporters,

After ten years of dedicated and compassionate leadership, Janice McAdams has announced to the Board of Directors that she plans to retire in the coming months. Her years of leadership have been full of activity and growth: a huge $1OM Capital Campaign, opening of the Pine Building, and keeping the house open in a safe way during the pandemic. Along with her dedicated staff and talented volunteers, the entire operations of the House has thrived.

The Board of Directors has hired the regional search firm moss+ross (who also placed Janice) to lead the search for the next Executive Director. Janice has graciously agreed to remain as Executive Director until her successor is identified. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Janice for all she has done to provide a home for families who come to Chapel Hill seeking the best medical care at UNC Hospitals, and we will celebrate her at the appropriate time. Janice would like to add her own appreciation to you as she plans for her next chapter. 

My ten years as Executive Director of SECU Family House have been the most fulfilling of my life. I wake up every morning excited to learn who we will be serving this day. Our staff is an exemplary group approaching each day with a 'how can I help?' attitude for both our guests and each other. If you take that approach to their jobs and stir in a dedicated group of volunteers, the end product is a vital community that is preparing every day for the new guests and the next need.

Yet as we all know, a time comes to change. I am not sick nor am I bored. I can honestly say that I will miss each of you every day. Then why do I write this letter? I feel like together with our staff, donors, and volunteers, we have achieved the addition of a new building now offering 75 rooms to UNC patients and families. This is an important moment to celebrate progress and look ahead. Our board has depth and compassion and understanding and have joined me in looking into the future. I just feel the time is right!

Join with me to celebrate my retirement. And join Family House as the Board searches for the third Executive Director to lead this jewel of a nonprofit, clear in its mission and goals, rich in its staff and volunteers, strong in donor support.
