Guest Spotlight - Pat and Rob Moll

Many of our guests come from several states outside of North Carolina and beyond.  This is because UNC Hospitals is a world-class medical facility with equally world-class and world-renowned researchers.

Meet Rob and Pat Moll recent guests at our hospitality house for a few months. Before moving to Peoria, Arizona, they lived in the Chapel Hill area and over time, received medical care at UNC Hospitals for hip and shoulder injuries. Deciding to spend their retirement years in Arizona, their lives were going well until Pat developed an infection in one of her hips.  Because her orthopedic surgeon moved, she and Rob made the decision to have her deteriorating hip treated at UNC Hospitals.  Prior to that, Rob had dislocated his shoulder – the result of a bicycle accident.  Rob told us “I didn’t think mine was going to be complicated and that I would need 16 weeks of physical therapy post-surgery.”

After getting settled in Family House, Pat had hip replacement surgery.  About a month later, Rob had shoulder surgery to repair a previously undetected rotator cuff and torn tendons in one of his shoulders. With regular post-surgery and physical therapy appointments at UNC Hospitals, Pat and Rob quickly developed a routine here, going to regular physical therapy sessions, enjoying meals with the guests, going for walks, etc.

Asked what staying at Family House means to them, both Rob and Pat shared that especially with Covid-19 still around, they have felt very safe around here, especially with the many interactions they’ve had with the other guests, volunteers and staff. “It’s been a haven for us and so convenient for all of our appointments.”

We wish this retired nurse (Pat) and retired chef (Rob) continued progress as they return to an active and fulfilling retirement in Arizona.  We also look forward to seeing them again on their next follow-up appointment here in Chapel Hill.
